    Javassist
    A class library for making Java bytecode translation simple

    Javassist enables Java programs to define a new class at runtime and to modify a class file when the JVM loads it. Unlike other similar bytecode editors, Javassist provides two levels of API: source level and bytecode level.

    GluonJ project
    A simple AOP system for Java

    GluonJ is a simple aspect-oriented programming (AOP) system for Java. It provides simple but powerful AOP constructs by using annotations in regular Java. Developers can use GluonJ as a compile-time AOP system or a load-time AOP system. Weaving (program transformation) can be done by an ant task or a class loader, respectively. details
    DJcutter (Remote Pointcut)
    A distributed AOP language including Remote Pointcut

    Remote pointcut is a new language construct for distributed AOP. It enables developers to write a simple aspect to modularize crosscutting concerns distributed on multiple hosts. DJcutter is AspectJ-like language supporting remote pointcuts.

    Kernel Level Aspect-oriented SYstem

    KLASY is a kernel level aspect-oriented system that enables the users to pick out a member access of a structure as a joinpoint. It also enables them to obtain a local context at the joinpoint.

    Eclipse plug-in for debugging code

    Bugdel is a eclipse plug-in which supports debugging code insertion. Aspect-oriented programming (AOP) can be used to specify insertion positions of debugging code.

    Automatic distributed translation

    Addistant is a system which supports development of the software providing functional distribution on multiple JVM. A programmer can operate the specified part easily on remote JVM by describing allocation of distributed objects in a file called distribution aspect separated from a regular Java program.

    QoSWeaver
    Aspect-oriented Application-level Scheduling

    QoSWeaver weaves scheduling code written in an aspect into application code. The scheduling code gets an application thread to voluntarily yield its execution to implement a scheduling policy. QoSWeaver also provides a profile-based pointcut generator for fine-grained scheduling.
    Josh
    An Open AspectJ-like Language

    Josh is new AspectJ-like language with an extensible pointcut language and a few mechanisms for generic description. Since Josh allows defining a new pointcut designator in Java, the users can define a pointcut designator useful in a particular application domain.

    Wool
    A selective, just-in-time aspect weaver for Java

    Wool makes it possible to implement efficient dynamic AOP systems. It integrates a technique using breakpoints provided by the debugger interface of the JVM and a technique using the hotswap mechanism, which allows us to reload a class file that has already been loaded.

    We translated CACM articles on AOP at the request from ACM Japan chapter. The articles translated into Japanese are now freely available from the ACM digital library. To access English originals, you must subscribe that library (not free).

    A version of C++ with a Metaobject Protocol

    OpenC++ is a tool of source code translation for C++. Programmers can easily implement various kinds of translation so that they can define new syntax, new annotation, and new object behavior.

    OpenJava is an extensible language based on Java(TM). The OpenJava MOP (Metaobject Protocol) is the extension interface of the language.

       Virtual Machine
    Warm-VM Reboot
    Fast reboot technique for VMMs

    The warm-VM reboot enables efficiently rebooting only a virtual machine monitor (VMM) by suspending and resuming VMs without accessing any storage. The warm-VM reboot reduces the downtime and prevent the performance degradation due to cache misses after the reboot.
    SAccessor
    Intrusion-tolerant access control

    SAccessor enforces access control even if the OS is taken over by attackers. SAccessor separates an OS for working and that for access control by using virtual machines. The OS for access control securely shows a dialog to authenticate the users of the OS for working.

    HyperSpector
    Protecting attacks against IDSes

    HyperSpector is a virtual distributed monitoring environment, which isolates IDSes from servers using virtual machines (VM) and a virtual network. To monitor server VMs from isolated IDS VMs, HyperSpector provides three inter-VM monitoring mechanisms: software port mirroring, inter-VM disk mounting, and inter-VM process mapping.

    Truely private VPN

    The personal network is a VPN created only for each user and prohibits the other users from using the VPN after it is created. To isolate each VPN, the personal network virtualizes not only a network but also hosts connected by the network.

    Compacto
    Safe and dynamic access control

    The Compacto operating system provides novel access control pritimives, which minimize security damages when a server is compromised. A unique feature called process cleaning allows to remove access restrictions from a process without security risks.

    SQS
    Session-aware queue scheduling

    SQS is a new scheduling method combining page- and session-level admission control to maximize the session completion rate for web application servers. SQS automatically adjusts the concurrency level based on the progress of request processing.
    Tanma
    Pleasant scheduler

    Tanma is a pleasant job scheduling system based on the progress-based regulation. While higher-priority processes are running, Tanma stops low-importance processes automatically without giving the users unpleasant feeling.

    Tottotto
    Scheduler specified to network-backup

    Tottotto is a system for backuping files through a network. Its contribution is to mix two scheduler: ordinary resource monitoring-based and progress-based. Even though heavyweight applications are running, servers using Tottotto don't influence the applications.
